Since 2008, KSID has been shaping the next generation of designers—combining Kerala’s artistic heritage with global design thinking to build a creative, sustainable future.

Kerala State Institute of Design (KSID) was established by the Government of Kerala as a premier institute dedicated to design education, research, and innovation. The institute was set up with the objective of nurturing creative talent and promoting design thinking to support industry, entrepreneurship, and social development.

KSID was founded with academic and technical guidance from the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, one of India’s leading design institutions. This collaboration helped shape the institute’s academic structure, curriculum, and pedagogical approach based on internationally recognized design education practices.

Located in Kollam, Kerala State Institute of Design offers undergraduate programmes in various design disciplines and emphasizes practice-based learning, innovation, and industry collaboration. Since its inception, KSID has been committed to developing skilled designers capable of addressing contemporary challenges through creative solutions.

Today, KSID continues to grow as an important centre for design education in Kerala, contributing to the development of the creative economy and fostering a culture of design-led innovation.
