KSID Hosts Its Inaugural Graduation Ceremony

The Kerala State Institute of Design (KSID), Kollam, the first and only state-owned design institute, celebrated a historic milestone with its inaugural graduation ceremony. Held on December 19, 2024, at the Sree Narayana Cultural Complex, Asramam, Kollam, the event honored the exceptional achievements of the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Batch of 2020 and the Postgraduate Diploma Batch of 2021. Organized under the Ministry of Labour and Skills, the ceremony was a testament to the institute’s journey as a premier center for design education in Kerala.

 A significant highlight of the event was the introduction of the specially designed graduation stoles, created by KSID’s Textile Department in collaboration with the Kerala Khadi Village Board, the khadi stoles symbolized sustainability and celebrated India’s rich artisanal heritage.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Shri V. Sivankutty, Hon’ble Minister for General Education and Labour & Skills, Shri Sufiyan Ahmed, IAS, Managing Director of Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE) and Professor Praveen Nahar, Senior Faculty and Former Director of NID Ahmedabad and KSID Principal Dr. Manoj Kumar K.

A proud moment for all, graduates from both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs received their certificates, marking the culmination of their academic journey. The certificates and memento for the graduates were awarded by the Honourable minister Shri. V. Shivankutty ,Hon’ble Minister for General Education and Labour & Skills and the other dignitaries Shri Sufiyan Ahmed, IAS and Professor Praveen Nahar, and  Dr. Manoj Kumar K and special recognition awards were presented during the ceremony: Ms. Ahzza Fathima received the Best Thesis Project award, while Mr. Ananthkrishnan T was honoured as the Best Outgoing Student of the B.Des 2020 batch.

In his keynote address, Professor Praveen Nahar emphasized the importance of sustainability, innovation, and ethics in design. He encouraged the graduates to use their skills to positively impact society and to uphold the values of their profession. The graduates also recited an oath, led by Assistant Professor Ms. Prashana Prashanth, committing themselves to lifelong learning and responsible design practices.

The ceremony concluded with a formal closing declaration by Shri Ajayakumar G, Administrative Officer of KSID, Kollam. The day was a vibrant celebration of creativity, culture, and accomplishment, setting the stage for KSID graduates to become leaders in the global design community.
